The Last Patriarch
G-75-7 Philip Moore Gruner (1912-2010)
He asked us not to mourn his death. We will try our best to respect his wishes.
Instead, we will celebrate the life of this remarkable man on the following
pages as memories from the many members of his close and extended families.
He was born on February 10, 1912 in Winfield, Marion County, Alabama.
He died in Nashville, Tennessee on May 21, 2010. In between was 98 years
of living that touched many people. He was the last of his generation and
well deserving of the title, “The Last Patriarch,” because he was a man
who also deserved the title “Gentleman” and tried all his life to embody its meaning.
“Light sleeps and life is gone,
But somewhere on the distant hills,
Another day is being born.”
