The Gruner Families Reunion
For many years, spanning from the late 30's to the 60's, Aunt Gladys
would bring ice cream to the reunion. It was brought in a tall insulated
bag with a block of dry ice on top of the 5 gallon container of ice
cream before the top was buckled over it. Usually the ice cream was so
hard that the can had to be lifted out for the contents to warm enough
to be dipped. Sometimes she brought ice cream bars instead.
She married George Miller in 1921. He, his brother and his father had
started the Miller Dairy Farm Ice Cream Company in Eaton Rapids and by
the 1940's it had grown to a sizeable business with a string of ice
cream stores from Lansing to Fort Wayne,Indiana. The company
bookkeeping was done.
