The Cake

A Story Remembered about Ellen White Fant and her son Robert Gruner

Grandmother Gruner was a patient person, as she put up with me, while living with us in Dearborn, Michigan.

One time Grandmother had baked a cake for a church function and Uncle Bob was going to drive her to her destination. However, it had snowed and the front walk was rather steep. Grandmother took her first tenasious steps down to the front walk.

She wisely chose to step to the right, so as not to be on the walk, but on the snow covered grass.

However, Uncle Bob, who was carrying the precious cargo, chose to stay on the icy walk. As luck would have it, he started skating down the front walk. As he passed Grandmother, he handed off the cake to her, continuing his trip to the sidewalk.

I belive that is called a lateral pass.

Uncle Bob delivered Grandmother and cake safely to their destination.[G-75-42]
