When I was a young kid playing in the back yard,
my mother called out to me from inside the house.
Her rule was that we were to answer her and
immediately go wherever she was to find out
what she wanted, however, I didn't want to stop
playing so I ignored her call. After a moment
she called me a second time. Again I didn't
respond.
The third time she called, she said,
" If you don't answer me I am going to whip you."
I immediately stopped playing and with great
haste went to her and asked what she wanted.
She asked me, "Why didn't you answer me?"
My response was, "I didn't hear you the first two times."
She said , "How do you know how many times I called
you if you didn't hear me?" I knew I was caught then.
How stupid I was ! I got punished for lying and for
not answering her and learned never to ignore her
calls again.
